Introduction to Maya - Rendering in Arnold
This course will look at the fundamentals of rendering in Arnold. We'll go through the different light types available, cameras, shaders, Arnold's render settings and finally how to split an image into render passes (AOV's), before we then reassemble it i

I hate the maya renderer!!! :banghead:

I've posted this under my WIP but i figure that I will get a quicker answer here.

take a look at my avi:

https://www.alanwoods.co.uk/files/crappy.avi

You will see it flicker and particles disappear and re-appear for now reason. I've checked the frames and it looks like it has flicked over to only rendering an alpha channel by itself.

any ideas / solutions

EDIT:
I've just re-rendered one of the frames that messed up and it has rendered fine as a still frame..... user added image I dont get this at all!!!!!

Are you rendering out the avi from Maya itself? You'll get better results by rendering out individual frames and sequencing the frames in another app.

Did you run a Render Diagnostics?

Maybe there might be some extra keys running around somewhere, or your flock script (If I understood correctly) is generating some random data at times. I´m still looking at the docs to see if I can help you with something, I´ve got limited experience with rendering yet..

Have you checked your project settings in Premiere? It could be dropping frames.

no it's definatley not premier cause I can see it on the TIFFS them selves, I just tried tga's as well and same thing. It's the same frames everytime so there's something wrong with the file somewhere.

Just tried to take off some of the particle stuff I was doing earlier to see if that was the prob. but It's the same crap again

I ran render diagnostics and nothing out of the ordinary turned up. It's weird the frames that are messed up have taken the colour of the particle and blocked out the rest of the plane geometry. It's bizarre cause this has only just started happening today.

The file below shows:

frame before,

frame after then the alpha of that frame

As the animation starts, notice at the top of the planes first loop.

Look at the WHITE particle trail.

It appears to stop emitting (in fact, I think they all are), then they continue emitting???

Weird...

any chance I could take a look at your file?
