Introduction to Maya - Rendering in Arnold
This course will look at the fundamentals of rendering in Arnold. We'll go through the different light types available, cameras, shaders, Arnold's render settings and finally how to split an image into render passes (AOV's), before we then reassemble it i

Splatter

Hm, I just thought of this, but does anyone know of any good ways to make a splatter?

Splatter? As in water splashing on the floor? Try creating a volume particle emitter, messing with the attributes to get it shooting a certain direction, applying a good water-like texture to the particles, changing the particle's render type to blobby surface (or whatever they call it), creating a floor with which to make the particles collide, making the floor "collidable," add a gravity field, then tweak it a whole lot to get the effect you want. That will give you a splatter.

That was the quick rundown version. If you have no idea what I just said, visit Mike's cool site down below and look for a liquid particle effect tutorial under the advanced section for a better explanation. He uses the same technique, only it's for water flowing from a pipe.

Hmmm... I'll give it a shot, but I'm more or less looking for a really high detail splatter(i.e. flick some paint onto a canvas). But none the less I'll give mikes tut a try user added image

Well, for that you can use Mikes tut to achive the liquid feel, then for a splatter, you can check out the docs regarding "GOALS", and just make your "canvas" or parts of it, a goal for a few "hero" particle blobsuser added image

Then if you need the "drip" action, just decrease your goal weights to slowly release controll over your splatter particles, and gravity should take over thus giving you the "slide"user added image
