There is absolutely nothing fishy going on. It was a very simple reasons. As stated on the website.
one reason was to make a better branding name something that goes well with the future products. Another was Alias|Wavefront name was very long and very difficult for people outside of North America to actually pernouce the complete name. You can read the full page Here
