XP-restore

You know when you do system restore on XP. How long does it take? I was doing it on mp PC and the progress bar was progressing and then stopped at one point for 10 minutes. I was not sure if it had failed or if it was normal. Anyway I just flippin reinstalled the whole system. For future though was that 10 minute pause on the progree bar normal?

Bloody hell can't get my adsl modem to work on the M60 laptop hmm. This is what caused the problem. I have re-reinstalled all my system again .... I am bit cagey about trying the modem driver again hmmmm...
I guess for now only the desktop connected to internet will do.
I have to network this lappy with the desktop.

I've done a few on XP (because it's crap) and one of them paused for about 15 minutes before continuing. So it was probably fine and there was no need for a full reinstall.

Anyway the driver for my ADSL usb modem has not been signed off for XP bla bla bla. XP warns me not to install it. I guess I tried it once and it screwed up the system so I will leave it for now
& just concenterate on networking with a crossover cable.

Just so that you guys don't waste time in the future, Windows XP's restore feature doesn't really work. If you want results look for a real restore program. I turned system restore off on my computer.

...and that is how I saved the world.

The restore feature does work. And you can use unsigned drivers as long as you are careful.

Wish stupid 2000 had system restore. *shakes fist at the OS* Every time there's a problem you don't know how to fix, the only option is to format everything and reinstall. grrr

OK when I install firewall it messes with my hybernation and standby mode on the laptop.
***** How can firewall effect standby or hybernation mode? Is this possible?
When I do system restore to the point before installation of firewall then everything work perfect.

System restore has always worked great for me and is one of the features of XP that I really
like... It has saved my ass a few times.
it usually just takes an extra minute or 2 to reboot.
but since xp boots 3 times faster than 2000 it does'nt
matter.
*also you can use the sys restore to trick programs
that have a free trial time limit*
shhhhhh
