Maya for 3D Printing - Rapid Prototyping
In this course we're going to look at something a little different, creating technically accurate 3D printed parts.

New here and I got a question...

Hello, I am Mr. Chi AKA Bjorn.

I am at first asking if you want to visit my website(s).

Then I am wanting to introduce myself.
I am 14 years old, have absolutely no experience in this kind of 'modelling' as I call it.

I am from the Netherlands so please do not look at my grammar and/or spelling mistakes, English is not my primary language.

Then I also have a question:

I heard from someone that you can use 'MAYA' to make bullets and these kind of effects in excisting .avi files etc. I am planning on making a movie with Team Kyooshi(https://www.TeamKyooshi.tk) but I'll need to add bullets to it, I can already do slow-motion so that's really the reason why I come here. I'll upload/update the website soon so you can see our plans on the movie.

I hope I get help FAST.

I am waiting for your reaction

~Mr. Chi

Well, I am aiming for both, but I already can make slow-motion moves with another program(Adobe Premiere) I want to create a bullet, and I want to know how to load that into your .avi file or how to load the .avi file in MAYA and then save with the effects.

so your wanting to render the bullet and have maya do the air distortion as it moves through your seen right ?

Doing the bullet would be no problem. Just render it out with alpha channel so you can composite the bullet with your AVI. Although I don't know if Premear will do the composting. I know Adobe AfterEffects will. It is also possible to have the AVI playing in the back ground of the animation in Maya, But that is very messy.

Also is the camera panning around as this is happening or is the back ground stable ?

about the air distortion affect. I'm assuming your wanting to do that. I know it can be done. But you might want to ask RageCGI for that. I forget if its done in maya or if there is some kind of layer that gets rendered and thin composted with after effects.

I havne't done something like this my self but I'm just trying to understand more of what your looking for.

We have a video tut here at SM on creating the Matrix Bullet Effect but you have to become a VIP member (subscriber) to access it. In general, you could simply draw a curve for the bullet's profile, revolve it to create the surface, then render the bullet out with an alpha channel and bring that into Premiere.

Darn, could I please get it from someone? I only want that video.

And just 1 thing I really need to know, is how I load .avi vids in MAYA or how I compile maya vids to .avi and combine em with let's say Adobe Premiere.

well I think some one else might know the answer to the Maya and AVI. Although I know Maya will animate a image sequence, and that it handles JPG the best, as fare as speed and not hanging.

To combine a sequence of images that you get out of Maya’s render. In Premiere just file>import>file and be sure to check the Image sequence on the file dialogue window. The files need to be numbered of coarse. and it will not combine JPG's but it will combine BMP, and some other formats. Look in your doc's for the list. Also in your preferences it will have a place to say how long you want each still to last for, you will need to set that to 1 frame. You might want to look in your doc's for that also. It's bean so long since I set that I forgot the exact place. I just set it and left it. I prefer to use afferEffects to do this part anyway.

Sorry Chi, we can't give you the bullet effect video as that's for subscribers only and that's how we keep the site alive. It's only like $22.50 or so to join and you get 14 points to start with. This will allow you to download several more videos, which may be helpful if you continue the path to learn Maya or if you run into other trouble areas.

For learning how to render frames and bringing it into a video editor, you could check out Mike's video on "Render Globals" in the "free training" section. It's more or less the same procedure pony described above.

Hmmm, okay fair enough.

Well, then can you create .gif files with MAYA? If so, then I already think I have an alternative.

You should read the manual before asing a question like this. Just open the render globals window and in the image file output > image format attribute, you can choose any of the available output formats, GIF being one of them. Most people render out in tiff or targa format with the alpha channel box ticked. This will alow you to get rid of the background in premiere and just have your bullet.
