Introduction to Maya - Rendering in Arnold
This course will look at the fundamentals of rendering in Arnold. We'll go through the different light types available, cameras, shaders, Arnold's render settings and finally how to split an image into render passes (AOV's), before we then reassemble it i

yep I do that. I know you can set the snapping tolerance down but the new tool still acts wonky and I do not like that I can pull a vert through other verts it creates problems. So I prefer the way the original split poly works and in more then 10 years of using Maya I never had a single problem with split poly!

So with all the other MAJOR problems in Maya 2012 why for the life of me they chose to tinker with split poly instead of worrying about things like maya not being able to open the render window, or uv text editor window, or other windows, or maya deciding to stop refreshing the display, or maya dropping your active tool when autosave kicks in, which in tern corrupts the history stack, and crashes maya, or .... and the list goes on and on!

Hey Rick

ahh jeez yeah. I started work at Digital Domain this week and its my first outing on 2012. I was screwing at the bloody tool...wtf!! Anyway my supervisor said they had the same probs when he worked on Tin Tin and stuff, and showed me that little split poly tool nugget. I now feel back in the land of the living!! So far thats the only trouble Ive had. I've been hammering away at Maya all week and thats been my only gripe of 2012. (so far)

will update this thread soon with some P51 stuff

Busy Tweaking the underside, but thought I'd post up a new fresh image of how I'll be rendering my turntables in future.....still working on light intensity but the color will be similar

Cheers

Its actually a physical sun and sky with adjustments.

on the mia_physicalsky node: set the multiplier from 1 to 1.3 (its quite powerful so use it carefully or you'll get blow out in the whiter areas) set the haze to 2, and the red blue shift to -0.1 and the saturation try from 1.05 to 1.1

on the mia_physicalsun node: set the shadow softness to 2 or higher depending on your own preferences, I did it to 10 but it was too blurry.

and the directional light itself -your choice of color etc.

yep I like it. Was curious about the light setup. The P51 is looking uberific!

cool thanks jay. I will play with that. I took a break from the bearcat. Waiting to buy a model so I can work out the landing gear issues.

Sorry forgot to mention I really like the model and the lighting in the original post.

Hey Thanks Rick

Yeah the idea of the light setup came from something I saw in progress at work but using different software so thought I would try it in Mental ray to obtain a similar result. Will probably try this with a bilnn and mia x too to see how the spec comes off the model

cheers
Jay
