I like how you are doing the texturing but you do need good photos that you have im trying with out success to do some thing simular.I think you can import your own mesh into FaceGen and you can do blend shape as well........dave

Daverave, I'll Pm you later

Yeah I did have a feeling that you could do it but I used it twice many years ago whn CG Society were doing as a demo on one of their book/dvds that I bought.

Yeah my textures are 'home grown' ones, taken on a Nikon. The textures are 3k and 4k

I agree facegen is limited Jay, for some one like me however who doesnt have modelling skills it helps. Especially with gaming, it should save me time. I would think also that importing a base mesh of your own scone is brilliant. Just a photo or 3 and off you go...I just checked dave, no import for it...only opens .fg files. There would have to be a plug-in for Maya to export Im sure.

Hey Jay, I just noticed this. The pilot looks great. One of the things I've been researching for the last few years is a way to 3d scan a person using photos just like the one's you've taken. (Take a look here if you're interested: https://simplymaya.com/forum/showthread.php?t=36965)

Have you ever given cross-polarization a go? It's a great technique that allows you to pull out not only completely diffuse textures, but you can also derive the specular map by subtracting the diffuse image, from the one with specular highlights. All you need is a flash, some linearly polarized film to place over it, and a circular polarizer for your camera. You then just rotate the filter 90 degrees to give you a normal photo, and back to cancel out the specularity.

Take a look here for an example on how to set it up, and how it works: https://onsetvfxtips.blogspot.ca/2009...-and-skin.html

And another: https://udn.epicgames.com/Three/Takin...rTextures.html

I was wrong in a way there are 2 FaceGen programs "modeller" and "customizer" it looks like you need to buy "customizer" to feed into "modeller". Sorry Jay did not mean to hijack your post..............dave

John

I did the polarization stuff with our 2d Lead, as we did a photoshoot of the gyro bike on Lockout . My own camera is not a digital SLR, its more of a hi res snapper LOL.

I shot my pics on my stairway landing, as the light there is very bright and the light bounce cancels the shadows, so that my cheat LOL.

I'd love to see a 3d model from the photos I have, can I mail them to you to do? then I can get the job done perfectly

Sure, just send them over. The more photos the better, as it gives the software more to work with. I need the full resolution images, with the EXIF data present. If you can't fit it in an email, I can find some other way of transferring it.
