Introduction to Maya - Modeling Fundamentals Vol 1
This course will look at the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. We'll look at what makes a good model in Maya and why objects are modeled in the way they are.

from the front view I thought eye was recessed.

Looks like some good additions, especially along the bottom.

Hmmm Recessed! Yeah I can see that. I wonder if it would make it look better. I might have a fiddle and see how that looks.
kewl!

Hey good guess SuperTrooper but not quite right. I make up most of my concepts in Adobe Illustrator which is vector art. I get the organic look by using gradients and transparancy etc.

I am just reworking the concept a little more before I start construction. One of my friends said the little fella looked too much like something off Star Wars. Not that its a bad thing... I just want to be a bit different. I am going with mhcannon's idea and I am trying to recess the eye. Will post the adjustment hopefully tonight.

Then onto modeling!

Illustrator hey?! I'll have to remember that for next time user added image

Concept looks great. How big is the bot relatively gonna be? Small like those identity eye-scanbots in "Minority Report"? I can imagine it being a fraction bigger like those robots in "Batteries not Included".

Looking forward to some Maya renderings.

Well, I guess there's a first time for everything, and this definetly has to be it! Nope wait a sec, on second thought... I'm pretty sure I passed out the first time I met my Ex... And I have no idea what happened when I met the one before her... Or the one before! Guess I'm just charming as hell when I'm drunk user added image

I like the improvement on the concept (don't really think the first one was sparse though), but since it hovers, why bother with tools? Why not just have it dissolve the gum (great idea for its use btw! p) ) using some ray or something? But maybe that's just me, I tend to take the easy way out... user added image

Now get started on some modelling, PRONTO! user added image

Ok I have had a break in the weather so to speak, and I have been able to get into the first sections of the robot. I started with the basic shape which, as per kurt's influence started in nurbs - polys - sub d's.

You have to excuse some of the seams that are not supposed to be there at the moment as they are just part of the construction process.

There is quite a bit missing from this model at the mo but you get the idea! Anyway, I will stop yaking and get back to the modeling.

Hey thanks for the positive feedback. I have so far to go with this baby but you have to start somewhere I guess.
I have gone thru and worked more on the main shell and I have tidied up various sections. I have added the detail in the top with the aerials. Now onto the more complicated array underneath the unit and the air vents etc.

Helllooo once again
Well just some more additions to the little robot's main body today. I worked on the construction of the air intake vents. There is quite a bit of detail even tho they look deceptively simple. I have included a shot of what components they are made up of and also a little wire for those who want to see.
I have also included the wires over the main eye now. Small but finnicky little beggars!

Thanks for the ups blomkaal.
