Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world
Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.

sry guys kept you waiting a bit, was busy heh, (began a new model) heres the render of a preview of the movie...i'm in the process of skinning the scene and car.

Can someone answer this question please, when a person is employed in a company for CG, do he work on a specific job like, one for modelling and an other for skinning and others animate ect...or one person does everything?

ps i will add the file soon to download (its for quicktime (1.5 - 2mb)) from here... the car is trying to do break dance user added image not a glitch heh...

from what i've gathered, most companies tend to employ individuals to work on specific aspects such as modelling, animation and texturing etc. that way they can get things done quickly and efficiently, but i've also heard about individuals whose roles change in companies from one project to the next, i.e. an animator with good modelling skills could be animating one project but helping out with the modelling on another if needs be.

thanks roostoons for the answer, cause maybe as you and others noticed i'm trying to speciallize specifically on modelling rather than texturing ect so maybe one day i'll make my dream come true to become a 3d modeller....always finalizing with a clay renders user added image

and for curious people about my other model in progress, I always loved cubix (it was a robot in a teleseries) and this series was done by maya user added image and so the fact its my favourite robot and i love robots...and learning maya, gave me the inspiration of remodeling him, myself and this time inc. texturing, the best i can (basic texture actually but I'll do my best)

"Hows the progress?" Well i finshed his legs yesterday and today I finished the basic shape of his torso and chest maybe later I'll do the details.

If anyone wants to see it I'll add a preview in the next post. see ya guys and thx again for all your support.

i make models very fast, i know, i made cubix in around 8 hours of work... i always make high poly models, the first itme itried a low poly and i couldnt do a thing...so i'm not that good yet, but i think to make these i say...Keep It Simple. when i see a model i say what are th ebasic shapes of this model, so cubes are involved, for roundish parts will i use nurbs or polygons...depending on the control i need on the particular surface. then i create a very basic shape of him or the object. then i start taking bit by bit into detail then i remove half of the faces, mirror and booleans to have a 'perfect' symetrical shape. i create one leg or arm then duplicate with a scale of -1 to have the oposite to save time into the settings. then i start fixing the model until i like it. like when i did the head i saw it very hard so i went to have a pizza and started starin g at the head and seeing from where i can start and start sketching arrows and directions for me to plan out how i'm going to begin and end my model...then i finalise with IPR and arange positions ect....then preview render

hope this helped, this is my technique of modeling, when i'm good enough maybe i'll do some tutorials for you to download user added image

what i can suggest to get a good mental ray render, is clik on the render settings and select mental ray, and then click on global illumination for the render settings.

Then go down to finalgather and put a number of about 500.

Then go to global illumination and plug in an image to apply to a sky dome, around the object.

then render .
