Introduction to Maya - Rendering in Arnold
This course will look at the fundamentals of rendering in Arnold. We'll go through the different light types available, cameras, shaders, Arnold's render settings and finally how to split an image into render passes (AOV's), before we then reassemble it i

Good eye, I know what you're refering to. I was going to model it as a separate piece of geometry as I think it's a metal stem (brass?) for the bulb fitting. What do you think?

Perfecto, yes a separate model is fine, as long as its grouped finally.

Just to get a sense of layout...

On the left side I have a suggestion for a window and bottom right a door.

The window may have light coming in if we choose to light up variations.

In the bottom the wll unit has been cloned.

The real room could be a lil smaller tho.

LOL!:attn:

Think for a room like this a rectangular would be fine.

WOuld you also like to model something?

Maybe the bed and realistic bedding?

Bed, sure.

Bedding? I'll try to brush up a bit on Maya cloth; see if I can get away with converting a cloth sim into static geometry user added image

Cool!

Its not possible do get away with bump/displacement, right?
If not , then the grooves and details have to be physical.
Once we have a layout model file, as a size reference, we could be building models and keep adding em on the way, whatsay?

Thats inspiring Perfecto!
Really appreciate you coming in early and working on the scene.
And Sever, great to know u're on your way to a cosy bed.
RCamel, pls see what way u'd like to chip in.

Guys, I think its time we have a structure of the room ready so, we have a sense of scale.

Heres what is to be done:
1. A room which establishes the scale of the room
2.The wooden bed
3.The bedding
4.A cornish
5.A window frame with glass
6.A rug
7.The closet/unit
8.A door to the room (closed for now)
9.A bg image for the exterior dpending on what time it is
10.A skirting
11.Bevels (or similar) where walls meet each other and the ceiling
12.Entire texturing

SO, Perfecto, would u like to finalize a room structure for now which you can pass around, so Sever can actually work on the real size of the bed and bedding?

Aye, that I can.

I googled "bed dimensions," and...well, for full size beds, I found two numbers:

53" x 80", and 54" x 80"...I had no idea which to choose, so what you're seeing above is 53.5" x 80".

Still a bit too "thin" height-wise, but I will most certainly change that. Also, I am looking into Maya 8.0 nCloth simulations, so I'll get some bedding to drape over the mattresses (yes, I'll be adding another).

Great Sever!

Lets see what Pfto, gotta say....
Cos maybe u;d need time and some concentrated work on the soft bed, drapery and realistic pillows.

Currently u're the R & D guy! :-)
