This course will look at the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. We'll look at what makes a good model in Maya and why objects are modeled in the way they are.

i think if you plan on using that whip the animation process to uncoil it is gonna be a bitch...

it's a good looking model so far, but instead of perfection on the model, why not start on ideas and blocking for the animation?

i know you said it'll be seen by a few hundred people, but if the animation's good people are willing to forgive shortcomings of the model... or at least write it off to style differences. user added image

i dint know about the water but for the wheel i think you could make it a rigid body then use a hing constraint in the centre of it... not too sure though

make the wheel an active rigid with a constraint to keep it in position then activate the paricle collision in the rigids attribute editor.

There is one more thing you must do to activate it(might be obvious tho)

First select the particles then the object(ferris wheel) and go to particles>>make collide.

I hope it helps a little bit. user added image

Looks pretty good, I would say maybe add a more weight to him when moving left to right (he's an elephant after all!)
