people can complain that those who dont have english as a primary language don't speak it well, but in quite a few cases they speak it better than the natives... at least here anyway...

haha, true, but over about the past 5-7 years I think that theres been a decline the the standard in general, in my job I see a lot of written reports with bad spelling and badly proof read stuff, heck bloody text speak is starting to creep in!!

QED XD

In school we seem to learn a lot of 'executive speak', which is basically drivel designed to make you seem smart. English is a lot like that but more surprisingly are sciences and IT. In IT lessons we dont learn IT, we just pander to the mark scheme. No knowledge of IT is required (its all coursework) and we can just use the help files, its ridiculous. Luckily my new IT teacher agrees and has dropped IT at A level in favor of computing. We're now going learn python user added image

BTW does the basic toon shader so the same thing as a surface shader because if so I might add it to the tips list since maya hates surface shaders.

QED... hahaha, there wasn't really a proof there to begin with though

maya doesn't hate surface shaders, they work fine for me... must just be yours

don't know if the toon shader doubles as a surface shader, if it doesn't receieve shadows or reflections or anything funky (so that it's pure flat and untouched) then i'd say yes

that's a "Ch" pronounced as a "K"

Computer skills I should have:
Objective C, C#, Java, MEL. Python, C++, XML, JavaScript, XSLT, HTML, SQL, CSS, FXScript, Clips, SOAR, ActionScript, OpenGL, DirectX
Maya, XSI, Photoshop, AfterEffects, Motion, Illustrator, Flash, Swift3D

Most maya installs don't like surface shaders, even on pro workstation cards. I'm not sure about the reasoning, but all the machines I have come across at work, school, and home, have all had issues with them.

I've never heard of the toon shader being used like that, but it might work. What I'm worried about is that it would take longer to render.

The best way still is to create a self illuminating lambert, and turn off some of the switches in the render stats.
