Maya for 3D Printing - Rapid Prototyping
In this course we're going to look at something a little different, creating technically accurate 3D printed parts.

Cheers Septopus. It's been interesting learning some of the techniques in Photoshop to help with the lighting. Thanks for your comments, appreciate it...user added image

I thought I'd post this link....this is the painting set up as a projection in Maya, with an animated camera move. Am working on this at the moment to add some more stuff, animated trees, some moving mist, smoke from the building's chimney etc.

I have also just signed up for Jeremy Birn's lighting and rendering workshop on CG society, same format, 8 weeks. Looking forward to it.

Thankyou. I've had a bit of a break from the course I was doing since last week. Got another starting next week, so wasn't sure what to do in between. I've ended up working on this. It's not nearly as ambitious as the others...started more as a way to kill a couple of hours, and try and use Maya's 'create ocean' feature. Still. I'm gonna carry on with it. Im trying to sort out buying Vue 8 (having some trouble with Paypal), then when Im trhough with my next course I may get on the case with some more ambitious stuff.

edit... i feel i should acknowledge an artist called stephen messing, a couple of whom's pictures influenced this.

I spent a few hours on this today. I was chopping and changing alot, I think where, I'm torn between trying to keep things going in a photoreal direction or more of an illustration direction. Im thinking of using Maya to create some more foreground props.

hi dave. cheers. yeah, i think youre right. i think the first place i'd start trying to declutter, is on the shoreline. guess i got a bit trigger happy with the old cut n paste. the neon signs were the last things to go in. i've not implemented them well, but the idea just came to me to make it into a kind of 'casino graveyard'. there seemed to need more in the foreground to balance things out, it seemed too empty once id worked on the city and shoreline.

perhaps one or two of those gravestones could go.

i'm just a stickler for a busy picture.

i'm gonna paint on the boat again i think, see if i can help balance the fg/bg that way.

Yeah. This is at 1600 px wide. What size did you have in mind? Having another play stage at the moment. Had to save this out at only a lvl 5 jpg to get under the space requirements.
