Complex UV Layout in Maya
Over the last couple of years UV layout in Maya has changed for the better. In this course we're going to be taking a look at some of those changes as we UV map an entire character

looking great man!
I do wonder about the position of the monitors though. If they are hooked up to the same computer then why would you put them at different heights?
also, monitor in the corner... bye bye corner... although i suppose you could hide some harddrives behind the monitor in the corner or something...

because after lunch ones brain becomes alert whilst the Mac falls asleep....

i swear that must be true!
I gets slower as the day goes on... and i end up going to sleep for the remaining 4 hours due to having to wait...

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

Very nice looking model - my only snag is the topic. Been reading and looking about alot of show-reels lately and Mavel characters, Super cars, Space marines and Pc`s are too common.

I have been putting off posting this for a few days as the models are looking so good and by all means carry on with this project. Its not a question on your skill, just subject matter.

No idea why they would be at different heights, just looks cool to me user added image

@Tweety - Thanks! This scene is only going to be shown for a few seconds, I think. I have big plans for what else to fill the time with user added image

EDIT: Slowly but surely...

Looks good, I have one question though,( hope it's not to personal) but why do you only have 7 months to get into the industry?

Not too personal at all. There's a baby coming with my name on it. So I'm gonna spend the next 7 months doing everything I can to get my life where I want it, instead of putting it off like I have been.

And thanks user added image

EDIT: Anyone happen to have a modern motherboard (preferably EVGA of some sort) laying around that you could get a picture of with a ruler beside it? I want to get started on the components, but I need an idea of scaling. Thanks user added image

A few little changes to the desk and a light bulb added to the desk. I think I may have done something else to it too. But don't remember now.

Went out for the night though and took the opportunity to render it properly, also got some quick tests of the light bulb. Gonna take me a while to sort out the light scattering, I'm pretty sure it's just the glass texture though.

(The reason for the dark render was that I was trying to get he light bulb to work. Pain in the ass in this program.)

what's so special about an EVGA motherboard?

you know... come to think of it... the part of the desk that's holding up the top most monitor looks like it should have stands at the corners or something to lighten the pressure on that skinny little piece of wood that's holding it up in a non-centre-of-gravity-point.

also, i don't know if it's just the tables i'm looking at now or if you're going to change it later, but desks have something on the edges that have a wood grain going horizontal.

The textures in these renders are all just to get a basic idea of what it'll be like. I'm gonna go full out with UV'ing and texturing later on. No where near where I'd like it to be modeling-wise yet.

And EVGA is the best. Nuff said user added image

@ Bullet - If it's a modern one that would fit the scene decently, that would be great man. Or even if it's an older one maybe you could get some close up shots of the capacitors and card slots and stuff? Would be much appreciated man, thanks user added image
