Complex UV Layout in Maya
Over the last couple of years UV layout in Maya has changed for the better. In this course we're going to be taking a look at some of those changes as we UV map an entire character

I-Iybrid: that's all screenshots from within maya... I did setup 3 lights in different colors to get a better feel for the geometry (and of course it's prettier that way :p)

ctaborda: count again :p but yeah, it's basically the idea of a pretty typical gray alien the way I picture it; basically human physiognomy with slight changes.

thanks.

I started out 3D with Blender in August 2000, then in September 2001 I had finally earned enough to buy LightWave...
Now I wish I had more time to get into maya quicker.

woah - nice model so far. and for the slight changes - i have a suggestion. if you would make the neck really really really thin, the alien would look even more yucc, disgusting, go away. not sure how he is described in the book, but a thinner neck would really be scary user added image

keep it up

well, if I made the neck a lot thinner, he wouldn't be able to support his huge head... that would work in a cartoony style only.

ok agreed - but the support is only relevant if gravity is similiar to the earth where this fellow alien comes from. if everybody who does aliens for movies would make them anatomically possible, then many movies would look less impressive user added image
