Hehehehe...that's scary. I actually had to open up Maya to check the bevelplus' output options because I usually have the output set to polys but wanted to be sure you could output to nurbs as well. Btw, All the stuff you saw on my scuba tank was done with NURB circles and bevelplus. (The rubber valve knob).

I still dont get why can't you use Photoshop instead of illustrator?

Each one is designed for a particular task and they excel at it.
Illustrator being Vector graphics.
Photoshop being Bitmap graphics.

Importing in version 8 Illustrator seems to be the best way to do it. You should use Preserve paths in the options when it comes to the Save As in Illustrator. Doesn't work that great but at least it gets something to work with.
