Complex UV Layout in Maya
Over the last couple of years UV layout in Maya has changed for the better. In this course we're going to be taking a look at some of those changes as we UV map an entire character

i did however figure out that the resolution thing changes the size of the texture in the uv window.

resolution thing? what resolution are you talking about..

also.. after you put the new shader on the object. when you asined the texture.. did you click on the box next to the shaders color, and thin select File, for the type of node you wanted ?

I'm asking becouse I have not seen a textue 1, tile like that in a UV texture wendow. 2, have it outside of the 1 to 1 texture space.

oh I also went looking around maya trying to think of what it might be.. when you press the cheaker button next to the color, it brings up the Create Render Node window. and I noticed that I have the "With New Texture Placement cheaked. and also in the 2d whare the file node is that you want.. at the top it has selection marks for Normal, As Projection, and As Stencil. I belive you will want the Normal one cheaked.

so I think you might have the Projection or probly Stencil cheaked as I belive that would let you specify the size of the texture. which you shouldn't have to wory about.

ah pony! brilliant! it turns out that in the color map window, somehow, "as projection" was selected instead of "normal". i changed it and wha-boom, it worked like a charm (looks real funny in perspective window but renders just peachy!). thanks so much for your help. in reward, you get to see the final product (oh la la!).

hey thanks a lot - i've only been using maya for 3 months, learned lightwave before that, like 6 months ago. it's still a brave new world. thanks for the compliments!

Hi,
Just wondered, are you doing the tutorial out of the 'Savvy' book? because your spaceship looks very much like the one I did..... Looks great...whatever...

hey scraggy: this is an original (albeit cliche) idea for me. i also have a space man to go with this ship, and judging from the amount of trouble i had with just the ship, the astronaut is going to be pure unadulterated hell. i can't wait!
