I was expecting something overly complicated. Ant replied to my request for a wire via skype last night with the ...cut and clamp method or some such. Still haven't had a chance to watch the vid on that that you posted for him. Busy trying to get the last three Model kits ready for prototyping before the 20th.

Why would you expect overly complicated...I dont get that comment at all, its a hole in the geo with subd loops to strengthen edges, standard modelling stuff. And what is this cut n clamp method...is it new poly modelling technique? What video?? LoL

For what its worth, I thought the same thing when i first read it in skype. I think perhaps i have misunderstood what Ant meant.
Mayhaps he can clarify it here, or via skype for me. The conversation was short and i was in a rush to get somewhere when it took place.
I just remember something about separated faces and reattaching them and cutting the edges afterwards.

Hey dave.

no mate, not at all. I just do what I feel is necessary for that area in particular. I do tend to look at the corners and have a think about what will be best for that area and just apply it. No fashions or fads to follow just standard modelling practices as usual.

Im also thinking ahead as always, so I dont have too much geo in one area keeping it all spaced as best possible and of course manageable. Plus its hard surface so I dont have to worry about deforming areas, just as long as the mesh is clean and tidy and looks like it needs to.

Thanks for that just one last question did you cut the edge that goes around the extruded area I think you did but not sure user added image

Hey Dave

no I tend to to leave a bit from the extrusion, to stop any possible light leakage. Some studios actually like all holes to be filled because of this. Not all but some.
