Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world
Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.

hey Jay, Where money is concerned the wife doesn't mind Maya at all, I think all Asians are well versed in the benefits of taking care of the cents and the dollars take care of them selves (that is a positive.) As a matter of fact as long as I'm happy (and she is treated with respect) she doesn't mind what I do. (While she is away that is) As I said she is In Japan and I haven't seen her for 20 months, (although there is an e-mail from her amongst this mornings mail). As some-one said (don't mean to be rude just can't be bothered going back through the mail at the moment, actually I don't know how, I'm new to this) long distance relationships are a killer and I suspect physically harmful, hence the girl friends and my wife's understanding of them (the amazing thing about the Japanese is they are so realistic and practical, not at all submissive as the world generally suspects) she knows it will happen anyway, for god's sake I'm only human and 20 months and still counting is a long time.
It's the girlfriends who don't like the computer, they wouldn't know Maya if it dropped on there (double major) film and creative writing at uni (mid-life crisis led me there) just a struggling student and so I have to scrounge up work where i can. One of the main reasons I have this compulsive Maya addiction is money. It is so rare here that any-one knows anything about Maya except for the NAME I was hoping to make a few bucks on titles or something. Get a placement this year through uni into one of the production houses because as far as Uni is concerned; I'm the only one there who knows what a z coordinate is (well maybe that's an exaggeration), none of the lecturer's have touched it, they all know it takes years of compulsive dedication.
I was hoping to get into the SFX race here in Adelaide, but as with any musical instrument or any art, Maya takes years. Actually discovering 'Simple Maya' has doubled my knowledge in about two weeks (again another slight exaggeration.)
Great to hear you are happily married I don't think life gets better than that, unless one becomes a Jedi Maya Master;head bang:
Which leads me to the question; if one had to make a choice between Maya and the wife, which ways does it swing?:user added image

that last E-mail got sent before I reviewed it;headbang: it should read; the girlfriends wouldn't know Maya if it dropped on their heads. blah blah and I'm doing a double major at Uni, blah blah, trying to get into the VFX in Adelaide to make money (wishful thinking).:

its just a tool to be used..... and maya is too user added image
(kidding - I'll probably get shot now...)

I'm after changing career from web programming/design to 3D. I know its going to be hard but my lady is supportive and knows I have to spend plenty of time using maya to get good enough to get a job in it. Hell she'll be supporting me doing a masters in 3D from september (hopefully) so I know that she will always come first user added image

hell, if they don't already know they are number one; somethings wrong in the house, right! :headbang: I was also hoping my wife would be hear to support me through all of this but she is caring for her dying Grandmother, there's no choice there, she has to do what she has to do. Lucky is the man who has a wife that is supportive through the tough times as well as the goood times. Cooking, cleaning, washing, all that stuff, it takes a lot of work. For me doing all of that plus Uni, plus Maya, Plus I have a MIDI addiction (been playing guitar for, what, just over 40 years) and running reason 3 rewired to cubase , which is another life times work. So much to do and so little time in the world?? If god meant us to do all this we would have been born with four arms so we could use TWO computers at once (networked to a couple more of course.)user added image

Hello everyone - interesting thread - I have been with my girlfriend for about six years now - we met about a week after I moved to New York in 1999. We were both oil painters and then about nine months ago she took a part time course in maya. A couple of months later she had me hooked. So I put down the paintbrush, we bought a computer, a copy of maya 6.5 and we haven't looked back since. The only thing we argue about is who is using the PC - so now I am looking for a laptop...

Ha, that's a real slant on things. Good luck to you, but maybe TWO PCs would do the trick, and swap between the licence and a PLE..., ..?? na, that wouldn't work either. Don't give up the brush, that's like throwing away a classical guitar for a MIDI sequencer with a sampler full of guitar sounds.

Now your girl sounds like the girl we're all looking for::bow:
