Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world
Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.

Hey Mat,

It took me a while to find it again, but check out this video of this man dancing. Some of his moves are amazing - especially his sideways moonwalk near the end. The quality of the clip is pretty bad, but I just thought that it might provide a couple of cool moves for your frobot.

I don't know how you are going to do that?

You could try rotoscoping it I guess.

He's not human!!!!!!

Thanks for the link arran, I'd quite like him to do a few robotic moves in the middle of the sequence but nothing quite so advanced. I chose to do this project as a learning exercise, hopefully I will have learnt enough to have him pull off a few simple moves before the end of it.

Cheers,

Mat.

glad you liked it Mat! Your Frobot is looking cool by the way. And I really like the dance floor. I have only done a bit of modelling so far so I'm looking forward to seeing your animation.

Hello,

The main lights are done. Next on the to do list, I think, is to add details to the bar, pumps, bottles, till etc.

Take it easy,

Mat.

Yeah, I'll get round to making it into a bit of a dive when i'm happy with it when it's clean.

Until then here's an update, I've made a start on stuff behind the bar, covers for the lamps above the bar and a neon sign that says DISCO (unfortunately the render I've posted isn't at a very good angle to show that off!!).

Take it easy,

Mat.

Sorry for the delay in updates, I had a bit of a mishap. I somehow screwed up the geometry on the walls and didn't even realise until I loaded it up the next day (duh!). It's all sorted now and I have made a little progress on the bar area.

Tim I know what you mean about brimming with ideas, each time I work on this I think of something else that it could have! I'd be glad to hear any other ideas, I can't promise they will make it into the final model but it would be fun to know.

Heres my progress.

Great work mat! Your night club is beginning to really take shape. Yeah, I think a juke box and pinball machine would definately add to your scene and would probably be fun to model as well. This is looking really good so far.

Cheers for your thoughts,

I like all of your ideas Tim, I hadn't thought of having a pin ball machine, genius! The whole thing has sort of snowballed in my head from the simple model focusing on animation into a full blown bar scene with multiple characters. I may be a little out of my depth at the moment, but hey it's all a learning experience! I'm not giving myself a time limit on this as I am learning along the way, but I will see this one through to the end, however long it takes!!

arran, thanks for being so positive about my model.

Here's a small update, the tills are textured!
