tsss a bit sad, the argument is almost more interesting then the rest of the thread. Dissing each other is not going to get anyone anywhere...
I'd say if you cannot take any criticism on your work don't post it in a public forum. And if you do get offended don't use any foul language to reply.
About the possibility to do something like this in software render, there was a thread a while ago,....

https://forum.simplymaya.com/showthre...lection+planes

and he used it to render stuff for a competition as well, have a look here, I think the results speak for themselves and I suppose the render time beat maxwells by uhmmm... a little, -you can see his lighting setup on pagfe 6 of the thread.

Yesh Dilberts stuff with the software render was great, I had a play with a mini that I was modeling with the software render, came out pretty good. Theres a render in the the Maya 6 rendering book done with maya default and thats really good.

I think that Maxwell's great and definatly got a place, but I think that it could become a bit of a crutch when going for photorealistic renders, like what HDR can be in getting nice refelctions, its good to have the tools under your belt, just not use them for usings sake.

nice renders, realistic! I suck at lighting...
this whole argument between Turbo and Starjs is retarded. Star may have been a bit misguided or maybe over estimating s/w render but to be honest it seems like he was just stating his opinion on lighting/rendering.

its not a valid arguement, its comparing apples to oranges.

maxwell and maya are different renderers, period, there is nothing to debate.

and there is no way you can duplicate maxwells renders, simple as that.

whether one is better than the other, there is no way you can duplicate maxwells renders.

if you perfer software, go right ahead, just dont claim that you can produce duplicate results with it.

you think that because the scene is a simplistic one that maxwell is the same as a low end renderer. any renderer can produce a blue ball on a plane, but who gives a crap?

but if u see Djblazers room that cant be done with s\w.

your entire arguement was that it didnt look like DJblazers interior scene. a 4" oil filter on a plane is a lot different than an entire interior of a house.
it was a useless opinon that should have never been brought up. you need to do more research before you open your mouth.

I say you give him the scene so we can actually see the difference, not debate about it.

Of course you cant duplicate the image, two different renderer's operating in different ways. All this about duplicating is stupid, and everyone else being an ass isn't helping.
Star - Overestimating s/w, underestimating Maxwell
Turbo - taking a misjudgment too personally
As recommended before, all you need is weed!
I don't know much about renderer's b/c I'm fairly new to this but its just my views from reading this highly entertaining thread!

Come on man chill out, why are you so heated and driving this further and further. This is "simplymaya" and not I am the allmightyexpertmaya.
People come here to learn. What you are saying and the way you are saying it is very arrogant.

Just let it be and we can go back to the oil filters, which is what this should be about anyway, -no?

Most interesting argument ever, starwars guy should do the render with the provided file by turbo.

Why argument over such a small thing and a weird one also.

starwars just thinks Maya software can do the same or very close to it, i think an expert lighter can do it.

turbo is angry because he payed an expensive renderer, and will not want to know that m/s could do nearly the same> well thats what i think.

If you post an image on a board you should respect everybodys argument even if they make no sens, if you dont like it dont react to it. CGI is a small world before you know it everybody knows about the maxwell vs m/s flame war user added image

Lol

Hey be happy guys smoke a banana.!!!

And do the test or shut up> and smoke another banana. user added image
