Beer glass scene creation
This course contains a little bit of everything with modeling, UVing, texturing and dynamics in Maya, as well as compositing multilayered EXR's in Photoshop.

thanks for all the replies, it helped me alot!

i watched the tutorials you linked me, and i played around a little, and finaly got some materials i was satisfied with!
the lighting still needs some tweeking though!

but the more i look at my sword, the more stuff i see that needs tweeking, and editing, and its kinda hard to do after i smoothed it!
are there any possible way to unsmooth it or something, when the history (or that part of the history) has been deleted?

anyway, when i get home (i'm at school atm.) i will post it here for your oppinions, and maybe tips to improve it!

Well if your back is against the wall there's the reduce operation, but let that be a lesson about smoothing to you craksy. Cute render but is it just the angle or is that handle too small for a blade that big?

haha, remember to save in increments, so if you screw up somewhere you can revert to older versions

anyway, the sword looks pretty cool. looks something like the one my sister's fiancee has (but not, the hilt on his isn't so big)

did you base it on a real thing?

pretty sweet dude, unlike my first model you've got texture mapping... but don't have as many polygons as me user added image

i agree with GecT with the whole handle thing. compared to the blade it looks small and skinny like it can only be held by one hand but the blade looks too heavy to be held by one hand

i know... i may make the handle a little bigger, and change the texture for it (big steel blade, and wooden handle? :S)
but do you think its done for my armory scene?

i am really excited about getting started with my sceene but ofcause i want my sword to be finnished first!

anyway, thanks for the reply user added image

You always learn new stuff... as a new member even more, so by the time you'll start with that scene you'll probably want to redo it. I'd suggest you don't make big plans at this point but take one step at a time.
Looks much better with textures, though this one still needs lots of work.

When in doubt, delete history and freeze transformations.

a sword with a steel blade and wooden hilt is normal, it's better than plastic and not as heavy as steel. you could also use a chicken (no joke).

now that i look at it and not to be harsh but the handle looks like it's a very hard piece of rope.

looking at my swords you see a diamond-like pattern created by the fabric wrapped around the hilt (it appears to be the japanese style of making sword hilts)
you should go collect some pictures of swords and you'll get a fair idea of what they actually look like

equally you can just make it up user added image

Out of curiosity, are you going for a realistic look or cartoony?

well... i think it will be a thing between!
i mean ofcause i want it to look at good as possible, but i dont really have the skills for a photorealistic look yet!

i think ill fix the handle, and then start the armory scene!
i know it still needs alot of tweeking, but i get bored of working on the same project really fast.

EDIT:

damn! look at this handle !
it looks excactly like, mine and i didnt even use it as reference :O

anyway, i think ill make the handle black, as on the picture and make some kinda ruby thingy between the spikes...
what do you think?

Well in this sense realistic doesn't necessarily mean the viewer will be saying "Oh my! Am I looking at a photograph?!", the viewer will know its not real but its believable , rather than obviously being from a cartoon world with its distortions and exaggerations.
