Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world
Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.

The leaves should be a lot bigger, unless you're creating an intentional visual effect where the flower is massive. Try also adding some color variation or subtle bump on the petals.

I'll make the leaves bigger then, but about the bump, can I do that with basic textures (included in maya) as I do not want to use external sources (pictures as textures and such)?
I did try to add a bumpmap to give it a velvety look, but then was disappointed that it didn't end up quite like I was expecting and instead was stretched over the petals wrongly. Is there a way to make it look correct over them without having to UV map it to each and every petal? X_X

You can do it with procedural textures (not image based textures), but you will have to UV map the petals. If they are all the same, you can do one petal and transfer the UVs to the rest.

They're not the same, some have different divisions, some are curled... all share the same Blinn though.

Looking good try a velvet texture for the petals see link.............dave

Thanks, does it work with Blinn too?
Although the pillow things look more like plastic to me than velvet.
When I think of velvet, I think of this:
user added image
Which allows for darker areas too, and has a fuzzy texture.
I did try Gen's method of making velvet, but for some reason again the maps went haywire and the whole rose looked like a ladybug, it was quite funny.
