Hehehehhe, thank you so much for the postings you guys! I love the one of the dragon being a bit chubby, since I also got a posting about it being too thin...
And NovaX you thought it was the one in the banner? I mean that is the mother of all compliments!!!! user added imageuser added image I wish it was as good as that one!! Maybe in a few hundred years I'll get that good with Maya...

Anyway, going to serious things, like involving my mental sanity...
Does anybody know if it's possible to mirror skin weights for rigid bind? I have pretty much completed one side, but if I have to go through the other side by hand to make it look like the left, I may as well start popping Prozac like candy...

Wow, I have been working on rigging and MEL stuff, nothing to show, really. I got VERY bored with it, so I decided to start some texturing, just to do something different.
Here is the eye.

I have made a selection of possible eye colors. I am not sure which to pick. I suppose it also depends on what color the skin will end up to be...
Any preferences anyone?

you're rigging it now?
i think you should start over. i found myself that models which i thought looked awesome were in actuality pretty shitty so i redid them a few times before i started to realize what i was doing wrong in the first place. if you want to become good at modeling redo things. I find that people who complement you too much to make you feel good is hurtful to your progress and growth. By being critizied pretty harshly i started to realise i wasn't right and that the people critiscizing me were really pointing out things that needed to be fixed and changed or redone.

try and build the basic body of your dragon similar to the real-life muscle structure of an animal such as a lizard or look in a dino book and check out how the prorotions of some of the creatures that are in there. your dragon can look however you want it but it wont look good unless you give it well made muscle structure and proportions. also i dont think you should be using sub-d's just yet. stick with just nurbs or polys.

sorry if this sounds cold but someone has to say it.

i hope you take what i post into good consideration. if not then i will have to be truly harsh. btw i can show you how shitty my first models were. =P

Hey 3dgurl, are you implying my dragon is shitty?????? Come on, it isn't like Pixar quality or anything, but I wouldn't have though it was that crap either... user added image user added image
No, don't worry, I don't take offense to comments: if I did, there would be no point in posting them in a forum for everyone to see and criticize.
(see, I am taking your post in good consideration... please don't get truly harsh on me! I can't think of getting any harsher comments than that... I may start crying and get the keyboard all wet and snotty... user added image)
Anyway, without joking too much, yes, every time I make something, I am well aware that it could be done 100 times better. Thing is, if I just keep doing and redoing without ever finishing anything, I am never going to have something done, right? So not that the dragon is going in the next animated movie or anything, but I would like to finish it and move on to something else, which hopefully, thanks to what I learn from finishing this, will be a little better, and so on with the project after that, etc. Sounds good?

Thanks for your posting!

i see what you are saying, but sometimes its good to perfect the work you make instead of making 100's of mediocre models =P

and i dont think its shitty but i do think it needs LOTS of work.

ive seen by far worse and at least you are using maya and not poser or bryce ^_^
