Unlimited isn't really worth getting in my opinion. Nothing on it that I need that Complete doesn't have or can't mimic in some form.

Complete works perfectly well.

Talking of Maya 5, I have just been looking at it's new features, especially the character rigging and animation ones. Well, I could fall flat on my back cos I just seen some new constraints added (Parent) and a new option for keeping the offsets.

For those of you who haven't done character animation these are a real bonus! They endear Maya 5 to me immediately. Now I can make my character walk along with his hat on, take it off and leave it on the table without having to make different versions and invisible hats user added image user added image user added image

Funny thing is (KEVIN - I HOPE YOU ARE READING THIS) that I have been able to do this in A:M for several years user added image user added image user added image

But now I can do it in Maya without the crashing...

Just a bit of excitement for us character animators!

i love my maya unlimited ... the Maya Live tool is GREAT , and cloth is FUN, an fur i never used user added image

but i only got a student licence of unlimited .. because it was CHEAPER than the student licence of complete (they had a few unlimited promo packs left but no complete promo packs user added image )

I think that 7k for a program that does not render particles in itself but need aftereffect to post process it is a nonsense for the "Academy Award software"

I never understood this either. I started 3D with Cinema4D whcih had particles which didn't need compositing afterwards, then I moved onto Animation Master which didn't need it either.

Is there some advatage not being able render the particles within the render and having to compositing them outside of Maya? Well, I can imagine there is but why not give us the option if you don't want such a classy render for us more casual users like me user added image
