Complex UV Layout in Maya
Over the last couple of years UV layout in Maya has changed for the better. In this course we're going to be taking a look at some of those changes as we UV map an entire character

Composite?

OK I have a question - It refers to the last shot I posted.

You see the window in the bedroom. - Is there a way to create a 2D background outside there and light it, so it would look Ok?
Just simple, to stop it looking black.

Regards Scraggy

(After losing all this time, I'm not too worried about finishing it by end of month - but I do want to complete it) - Maybe in WIP forum?

And Howard.. I did try tiling the rug, but found it created a seam down the centre of the floor, I will have another go at it tonight when I get it all back. I may not have done it correctly.

You can either place a plane outside the window and texturemap it with a background image. Or you could do it in post, and composite in a 2d background (you would possibly have to track the camera then though).

Big Smile...

I have Maya back now, just started it up. Hmm one of my objects (A PC) has disappeared from my saved scene but I'm so glad to get it back I don't care user added image

Thanks Fredriksson, will try setting a plane up outide window.
I guess big enough so that you never see the corners, and not too far away from window...
I d/loaded that "Terragen" will try to make the background with that and see what happens - Then must get back to "Rigging Mike" tutorials...

OK - Here's a picture that shows the problem when I 'tile' ...

I wanted to 'tile' the carpet more, (Thanks HowardPorter) but the problem is, I get these 'edges?' You can see what I mean on the spotty yellow texture at the bottom of the bed. - There are lines running down from where I have tiled it.
When I tried 'tiling' carpet texture, it did the same but much more pronounced - Is there a way to fix this?

Anyone have any tips on lighting in here? I just can't seem to get it right.?

Regards Scraggy

Oh yeah and anything else you may spot - please tel me.. I will be adding a few more simple objects and hopefully getting better textures for wall and headboard before its completed.

[EDIT] Just noticed - Everytime I save, the writing comes up in purple at bottom right ---- "Warning Cache is not open It is not saved" - Hmm it did seem to save but anyone know what that's about? Didn't happen before?

Looks like you had some extra vertices or something before subdividing.

Wierd Subdivide.

Nope, I thought the same Mike, so I just went and created a simple poly cube and tried subdividing without modifying - and got same results?

(That is in fact the picture you see - just a straight Create>Polygon>Cube then Edit Polygons>Subdivide, it only ever messes up like you see when I subdivide next to a face that has already been subdivided) Have tried deleting history and have reset the subdivide settings to default, but I get the same result?

It's getting to bug me now, I just thought of checking settings in 'Tool' options to see if that makes a difference, but will have to wait until I finish work later to try.

Any other ideas, please tell me...
I wonder, would someone please try it out on their machine and tell me if it comes out same or OK?

Hey scraggy, tried it on mine and get a perfect subdivide. Why don't you just split poly for now and sort it out after when you have more time.

Yeah - maybe will have to, but - I'm so far behind after those Maya - less weeks, it's just another obstacle.
Thought someone may have seen it before. But yeah you right - Must plod on - It's my 1st day off work tomorrow so will finish the rigging this week hopefully. (Didn't realize there were quite that many tut's on Rigging and Animation -In fact I still need to buy the last Anim one to get the full set) On and Upward !!

Compulsive "Fixer"

Thanks, If the modelling looks good, it's due to SMaya help.
BUT - Seem a bit stuck at the moment...

Hmm, I tried ignoring it, but just cannot... I have to fix it before I move on! (Maybe I have been an engineer too long and just can't stop fixing stuff?) This is really doing my head in.... I have tried everything I can think of, I guess it's a setting (Altho' I have tried changing quite a few!)
Or it's screwed up in some way, but doubt that, probably just some wierd piggin setting the last user did on me to 'beep' me off!

Anyways I have to sort it...I won't even trust the Rigging I do in the next few days or anything, till I know why I get these (TWO) faults...

Recap :-

Fault 1 - "Warning Cache is not open It is not saved" What's that mean? In the bottom right window.

Fault 2 - "Look up 6 posts, and you will see a wierd subdivide"
I need to know why it's doing that?

Help!!!!!!!!

Regards Scraggy
