how about playing with the camera angle so that the mouse is more prominent in the shot - that'd increase its size so it doesnt get lost and add more fear to the elephant.
Here's just a quick example of what I mean - sketched with a mouse (literally) so dont laugh user added image

Thank you for the sketch. The camera angle is something that I was going to play with when everything is in the scene. I was definitely thinking of a shot like the sketch you made. More of a close up of the mouse, with the elephant in the background a little more. I want the expression on the elephant's face to be a bit more visible, and probably more charicature style. The final image will be different, hopefully...

Rocks

Also, someone suggested changing the rock textures, because they look fake. So I may just take some of the rocks out of the scene and replace them with grass.

Coming together nicely. I do agree about a change of camera angle. The body of the elephant suggest a more cartoonish appearance, so you should be able to safely mug the face of the elephant.

Note: Mugging is a frontal view of a cartoon character usually in an extreme pose.

I was going to have some water, another thing I would have had to learn to create, but since I am going to move the camera, the water is out. An updated camera view will be posted soon, over the shoulder of the mouse, probably...

not bad Joe, I am taking it as a night scene, if so you should increase the moon light and move it so it comes in from the top right corner, hope you dont mind I added to your last render.

Cool

Very nice. Thank you for your input. I was hoping to make it a night scene with a dark blue tint, and a moonlight shining on the scene, but I was trying to figure out how to accomplish this is Maya without making the scene too dark. I want everything to be visible, but seem to be at night. I like what you did with the shot. I still have to experiment with the lighting, and shine of the moon on the scene.

why is it going to be a night scene? also just because it's night doesn't mean everything is black user added image

have some nice darks where there is nothing happening but make sure your hero characters are properly lit

night scene

I originally thought of the idea as a night scene, but I have to figure out lighting in order to make it work really well, otherwise I'll just make it an evening scene. Its not going to be that dark, I want a darker background, to make the characters pop out a bit more.
