Over the last couple of years UV layout in Maya has changed for the better. In this course we're going to be taking a look at some of those changes as we UV map an entire character
I love the new legs, perhaps a cable or pipe showing across the joints might work as you have a mechanism for the wheels and something has to control them.
Considering how new you are to Maya I personally think this is an excellent design and model
Thanks jsprogg! I also like your idea about cables or pipes going across the joints. I'll play around with that to see if I can make it work.
Now that I've learned more skills and have some experience creating something from scratch, I can't wait for the next project. I can't stand leaving something unfinished, so I'll finish modeling the arena first.

i've gotta say that with the way the current feet/treads are going i can't help but imagine some kind of transformer... even if it's something silly like a snowmobile. i can see the whole robot model folding backwards onto the ankles and creating something that the treads have legitimacy to.
Much appreciation for the compliments and creative ideas. I come to believe that one of the most valuable tools in Maya is getting feedback, etc from others. I would have never thought of the transformer idea but I really like it. (Wish I were a mechanical engineer). I may play around with that idea after the competitions over (before the competition if I get time).
