Introduction to Maya - Rendering in Arnold
This course will look at the fundamentals of rendering in Arnold. We'll go through the different light types available, cameras, shaders, Arnold's render settings and finally how to split an image into render passes (AOV's), before we then reassemble it i

That's kinda fits in with my original idea.

September: Model a character.

October: Animate that character, either lip sync and or walk cycle. If the character is a real person, find some audio of that person and use it in the lip sync.

Yeah, but no but yeah but no....

how about a competition where we model pop stars. I wouldn't mind doing Aguilera. That new skank look rocks!

Hehe...I hate modelling characters, unless I get to make them up myself.

That's way it's a challenge. And you'll only get better at character modelling if you do it.

Competition hallowen

Why not a September - October competition

Since its animation it takes more times to do.... an Halloween animation with something scary happening in it would be nice?

Just a suggestion.

I still like the idea (and I noticed that Howard had suggested it before me, oops nicked it!) of getting a piece of music or speech and then letting people have a freer range with the animation style to deliver it, the point being the animation. Mike's challenge sounds good too though. I think a 2 parter would be jolly and it could combine both.

Well, at the moment, we've decided we're going to try the game art challenge, using a real job's stipulations as the rules, to hopefully give you a good understanding of the kinds of things someone in this field actually does.

Rules will be posted tomorrow. We'll try to get some rules and a file planned for an animation challenge for next time.

I think you guys should keep the challenges to 1 month - that way, the forums are livelier. If its a 2 month challenge that is fine too (although there should be provisions for both). I still say model a imaginary popstar (more distinctive than a celeb.. what's a celeb) and we're not talking about caricatures here. DESIGN AND CONSTRUCT A POP IDOL.

TheAce, you stole my avataruser added image
the game art challenge sounds really cool to me... I also like the idea of animating to a voice... kind of like the 10 second club. we should really try both some time or another

EDIT: or it least it used to be my avataruser added image
