Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world
Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.

You need to put your render settings to production quality, because that’s way too aliased.

Arn't you going to smooth the cloak? Also add an ambient light with intensity turned down

Yeah, I would bring the intensity up to something like .400 and also make the color a royal blue or something creepy like that. Looking good!!

ALSO:: Try smoothing it and post a render with it smoothed and without so people can give tips on how to perfect it.

I wouldent use an ambient light at all, it washes everything out and ruins any feeling of lighting that you might have got as it washes out all the shadows.

I use mostley area lights, with the odd spot light in there, heres an example of what I mean

https://forum.simplymaya.com/showthre...690#post245690

It does have a HDR image in there for refelctions but its not really contributing to the lighting.

Happymat27 had a great tutorial on 3 point lighting set up, well worth a look.

"louis56" alright ive done wat u said ive up the intensity to .400 and i put the royal blue color. as u said to smooth him sorry but i at the moment my pc can;t handle it, im getting more Ram soon to solve that problem, BUT are u talking ABOUT subdiv or poly smooth????

"gster123" ok i dont know much about lights but i decided to compare both so i did both of wat u guyz told me too. anyways im sorry but wat do u mean by HDR image?

If your going to test out lights, I would suggest that you set a book mark for the camera (have a look in the help files or happy mats video tutorial) and render from there.

Also make sure that your default lights off (in the render globals) then use the "7" hotkey to see how the lighting's looking via the graphics card to get a feel then render with one light setting that up to be the key, then use another for the fill, then another for the back/rim, add mre if required from there.

HDR is using an imageto light the scene, I doubt that you would need it here, theres plenty of tutorials on using them, but its best off lerning to light without it.
