Introduction to Maya - Rendering in Arnold
This course will look at the fundamentals of rendering in Arnold. We'll go through the different light types available, cameras, shaders, Arnold's render settings and finally how to split an image into render passes (AOV's), before we then reassemble it i

I am finding this thread quite amusing... it's a bit like Pop Idol but who is Simon Cow (or whatever his name is)?

It is true when you first start your model, then when you rigg it you find problems with the modeling, then when you animate it you find problems with the rigging etc. I have been there and done it. My weakness is texturing, I cannot be bothered with it. I 'd rather slap on a few shaders and get rigging and animating. Now I have discovered the UV editor I love it (gotta paint those models).

This whole scenario reminds me of when I first started to get a graphic design job using computers - I wasn't good enough at the time. BUT I HAD POTENTIAL! Now here I am today up to my eyes in it wishing I had taken up animation at college... God I always miss the *ucking Bus...

Anyway, I agree not neccessarily harsh criticsm but constructive criticsm. Take it in learn and apply. If you keep at it hard enough and long enough maybe you will find yourself giving out the critiscm yourself and be experinced enough to be able to give it. My problem is I think I can do it but don't have the time.

Just my two penneth worth.

Tickety boo and ta ta for a bit...

Hey man, your dragon is coming along really nicely! One thing you may want to know is i have some pictures of fire breathing dragons here on my walls and all of them have a lizard type toungue, that is black.. underneath their liner of their mouth.. so they have their teeth.. then kinda a hump so that the fire doesnt really come in contact with their tongue and under that hump emerges the tongue.. like a cave for it. Just something to think about user added image. Looking great though, try to smooth out the sides a bit and keep the poly's low .

I am really glad of the direction this thread is going! Here are my 2 cents on the matter:

1) I only pointed out I am a girl because I thought it was funny to read about myself in other people's comments referred as a "he". I ABSOLUTELY do not want any special treatment in life because I am a woman. I don't like the idea of the "sissy forum" and the "realistic forum". I can take criticism, harsh criticism, and everything else.

2) I am NOT in the 3d business, I am a SW Eng. In a perfect world, I would love to work in the VFX or animation industry, but I am not so stupid as to realize that since I am learning it by myself in my spare time, I will never get up to the standards. Fine! This doesn't mean that I don't want to learn, or that I don't want to perfect my work. I am an extreme hard worker, even when it comes down to hobbies. If people have seen my other postings, you'll see that they usually start with "This is an experiment of..."
or "I decided I wanted to learn ... so here is my attempt". And I do pay plenty attention to people's comments, and try to implement them, if I can (sometimes I don't have a clue on how to do what they suggest)

3) I have managed people myself, so I know a thing or 2 about social skills... Telling people their work is crap is NOT motivating, and does NOT make them want to do better the next time. It makes them want to shove their foot up your ass. There isn't a single thing that people do that is completely worthless or useless. You can always find something positive in their work. Even just saying "Ok, this wasn't your best attempt, but what have you learned from it?" is better than "That's crap! Go back and do it again!"

4) I know of women who think that to make it in a male world they have to be Ms Bitch, or they won't get any respect from guys. WRONG! Guys are not dogs that you have to kick around to get respect from. Kicking people around does NOT get you respect, it makes you hated and if you are a woman they'll say that you are so insecure and have such a chip on your shoulder that all you can do is be a bich. Treat everybody (men and women) with respect and you'll see the respect come right back at you.

5) Enough of this crap, what do you guys think of the teeth????? user added image

Hey M thanks for the reference help. Actually, last week on the National Geographics, they showed that the dragon has a big round tongue with green polka dots on it, which become purple when it breeds fire... user added image user added image
