Introduction to Maya - Modeling Fundamentals Vol 1
This course will look at the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. We'll look at what makes a good model in Maya and why objects are modeled in the way they are.

All my other files seem to be in perfect condition.
(I'm also using one of the school's computers. These beasts have some crazy anti-virus and website blocks on them)
This happens on all the other computers also. My file won't work in any of them. I can still move around my object, however, but I just can't perform any operations.

Have you tried to import the object into another scene to see if that clears it up??
