you can rig them for presentation, but I'd like them to be be unposed for part 2

then another question, do they have to be rigged, or can the limbs be modelled into the right position right now?

For characters, it makes it much easier to texture to have them in a non-posed position, such as the DaVinci pose.

I get it :/ I will have to remake my arms and legs then.

It is a pain in the ass doing arms and legs on a fetus since it is impossible finding jesus-style pictures of them user added image

I love a challenge! Forces you to improve yourself. Even if you don't win, YOU STILL WIN!. I'm in.

Sorry Mike; gotta keep bombarding you with questions...user added image

I have a thread going in the WIP section (you don't need to check it out) that contains my progress with models I have been working on for my games-level modeling-and-texture class. I intend to use the model I am making for this challenge in my class as well (though I will keep the poly count very low for the class!).

Anyway...while I understand that you would like NO uv-ing and texturing for the sake of this challenge, would you mind if I still posted images of my progress in the WIP section?

If the answer is "no," I will not post textureed images in my WIP section (at least until the challenge is over :p)

EDIT:

Also, as for our ability to export a .obj file, I save my scenes incrimentally, so I will keep a version of the model in its non-UVed non-textured state.

Another question came to mind when I was having a display issue (it is now resolved).

Will we (I) need to use some "outside" file uploading source to be able to upload maya files, and post the link to it on the part 1 submissions thread? I don't think it will fit as an attachment to a post...

probably would be best, if they won't fit. If you can't find anything let me know and I'll see if I can do something for you.
