Introduction to Maya - Modeling Fundamentals Vol 1
This course will look at the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. We'll look at what makes a good model in Maya and why objects are modeled in the way they are.

i too just tried to save the file to obj and although successful i had a terrible time trying to get it seperated once reloaded, I had to save the model in 5 groups and import 5 different obj's to complete the model and seperate this took quite some time and still all the objects now need renaming.
I'm not against sharing the model but I think that an obj is not going to be possible in my case so I too may not be able to take part in part 2 user added image

I've had the same concerns about file sizes (check the bottom of page 9), so after I got Mike's response, I went out and browsed the internet for file hosting websites.

I found uploading.com and registered there; it allows for file sizes of up to 150 megs.

I intend to use it because I don't think even my low-poly model will fit as an attachment to S.M. site posts (262,144 bytes user added image ).

So it's texturing then... great user added image I'm sorry for those who get my model, just because their gonna have to separate it in few files, and then bind them back together user added image

But texturing of my model will be rather easy... not much work on UV mapping is needed, cause all the details are already there, and all the primitives are separated... Does OBJ have separated objects?

So, I'm sensing a lot of opposition to the challenge idea. Do you guys simply want to do away with Part 2 and strictly have this be a modeling challenge? Or have part 2's texturing challenge but just not trade models like I originally intended? The idea was to have a texturing challenge, but I didn't know how to have one without providing a model that I didn't have time to make, and thought the model swap would get the creativity going in new unique ways.

I`m down with the idea just not the obj part. It seems like 2 much extra work.

I don`t mind if you change it to we teture our own nether as thats what I thought it was anyway.

But I really want to see all these wonderful entries textured.

But cheers for trying to be more creative with the challenages mike user added image

Maybe ask someone else to make a model for a future challenage, sure there would be some offers

Ok, I think I'll do that. I actually found a simple model that I'd be willing to hand out for texturing. So consider this a simple, modeling-only challenge from now on. The deadline remains the same. user added image

Thanks for your input, guys.

If you're going to to a model swap, i think it's better to put a polycount limit on the projects. Some poor sods are going to be left UV'ing for week when they gave a 1000 poly model to someone else.

Nice idea though - would work better for a specific game challenge i reckon.

Thanks for your input, guys.

Cool it be great to try a challenge without having to model anything

I have one little concern.
How are you judging high poly vs low? For example, my model was made with texturing in mind so i haven't put in some extra details whereas other models are still detailed without coulors, will this be considered at the end?

Going back to the topics of "wild wild west"

https://forums.cgsociety.org/showthre...f=132&t=482270

I can`t beleve that

1) someone would say these words

2) Spend that amount of afford on something from that rubbish movie.

3) He make the thing look cool.

Hat off to him. If only the movie was as cool
