Introduction to Maya - Modeling Fundamentals Vol 1
This course will look at the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. We'll look at what makes a good model in Maya and why objects are modeled in the way they are.

Hey Dave

Excellent!! I knew it wasn't common place to do this type of loop 'support'. Ive been using it quietly for ages...but never shared it...but on the last film I did I used it all the time, even showed my guys too. I've not seen it used by others in the studios Ive been at either... It works better on outer corners though, but as long as the spacing is right on the inner ones then its good to go all round, and certainly saves on relooping and adding unwanted topo....

cheers
Jay

Update, finished lower vents, just sorting the scoop below the prop and then a small hole needs adding to the nose cone to finish that off then onto the wings!!

Dont know if i would be brave enough to cut a square hole in that lovely smooth fuse, but you did a great job of keeping everything flowing in the right direction there mate, this thing is looking excelent

Thanks Paldav....

Well the minute you make a hole, smooth preview will 'shift' the mesh so you have to tweak it a bit, trying to keep it all aligned. Unfortunately its not as simple as it comes across...its not hard, but its not without its problems either

Hi Jay. I tried your flow for cutting a square hole in a smooth rounded surface and and it is working great. Thanks. I have noticed that the corner is nice and sharp in a rounded way as long as my subdiv level is 1. If I up the subdiv to 2 or more then the corner distorts. Have you encountered this before?

There is something wonky about maya's smoothing algorithm. That trick of going 3-into-1 on the corners works with a lot less fiddling in Max for some reason. In Maya it works but you have to do a lot more fiddling to keep it from pinching.
