Introduction to Maya - Modeling Fundamentals Vol 2
This course will look in the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. It's aimed at people that have some modeling experience in Maya but are having trouble with complex objects.

Pure, i know your MA computer animation degree is the technical one. Why did you choose that over the art based MA?

Yeah, but no but yeah but no....

Scene looks great mate.. I agree with M might try to have a few spiders move in a few more directions. That would really spruce it up.

My only real crit is the ground has a weird shimmer..

Its a light thing. In a scene its always good to have only 1 light that has emit specular checked in it attributes, all the rest can be check off

That should get ride of the shimmer and make the ground look more solid...

The spiders are fantastic. I'd agree on the slightly more random pattern point but it's great overall, they really look like they are 'there'.

Well Alan, speaking purely from a "I dont know anything about Maya yet but I like cool looking stuff" point of view.... this kicks ass man!

Only one question tho...... as the cam pans to the right...... whats that sharp dark line that appears in the foreground at about 10 secs to 13 secs? I thought it may be the edge of rock but one spider walks over it without gaining any altitude. Perhaps its a shadow from the terrain. Maybe you could soften that line up or break it up so its not so sharp and straight?

All in all I still say.. it kicks total ass man! Awesome work Alan. user added image

z1mmnd14: I picked the technical one because it's what I enjoy more, I really hate sitting there playing with IK handles trying to get an animation to look good and it taking forever and a day. I prefer to script and program user added image I'm not a typical animator by any sense of the word. Also in retrospect the technical animators (the ones on my course) are the ones that are getting interviews whereas the MA's are gonna struggle more. I mean there are 4 times as many of them as there are of us and there arent that many jobs for animators out there at the moment.... sad but true. I think that on my course we have learned a lot more than on the other courses as well. But maybe I'm a little biased.

Witchy: If I have time I will make some more textures, but that's not top of my little list of things to do at the mo user added image

Harvezter: I have a funny feeling that the line you are talking about may be a texture misbehaving.... I will check for any hard lines in the file and get rid of them

Kurt: you may be right on that I will take a look, it could also be some stuff from the DIvx compression.

thanks for all the replies guys, I will hopefully have something else to post later on user added image

ok here's a quick test comp of one of the shots I'm planning on having. I'm really getting seriously bored of these spiders now. All I have managed to actually do today is add that stupid sky in shake.... lol I need some motivation!

i know exactly what you mean.

the ending part of a project can sometimes be the hardest after the entire andrenaline rush of getting all those details worked out. But stick with it man. dont let it get you bogged down...

try working somewere else...

I just read every single post in this thread... you stuff is amazing. I am workign on a short also in Maya, I am still getting my models sketched out ( which is gonna be about spiders also ) I think mine is gonna take me waaaay longer than your cause i work full time also....

oh well.. back to the drawing board for me..
