Introduction to Maya - Modeling Fundamentals Vol 1
This course will look at the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. We'll look at what makes a good model in Maya and why objects are modeled in the way they are.

projection problem

Noob question here: So, is there a way to add or remove new faces to or from a projection? I have a cylindrical projection of a head, and I want to remove some faces on the neck that I accidentally included in the projection, how do I do this? Thanks.

assign them to a different one... that will work or re-apply the one you just did

But if I re-apply after I have textured it, I will lose my mapping won't I? So, the answer is there is no way to modify the compenents of a projection once you create it? I guess if Ipick the same faces except a few, the uvtexture hopefully will not change too much. I have already textured the face, and I don't want to change it.............................. I will experiment at home.

applying textures or whatnot shouldn't affect the UVs.

well, when I delete the projection, it deletes the mapped file. and it makes my shader blank, and I have to re-select my faces, map, and then load the color file again. There is no way to just go into the projection and add or delete faces? It seems weird that this option is not available. Also, is there a way to feather the edges of a projection? It would be cool way to have the seems blur between projections.

I'd probably recomend just using regular texturing rather than relying on projections.

I am using a cylindrical texture map for the head, is this not the best way? Maybe I don't mean projections, I mean mapping user added image

Well, if you delete the mapping, then yes, the mapping will delete. lol

In the UV Texture Editor, you can always just handle it by hand, cutting or sewing UVs where needed.

We have a couple UV mapping tutorials here as well as at my own site you can take a look at.
