Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world
Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.

Final Gathering: first efforts

I'm a newbie to Maya. But, I thought I'd share one of my first Final Gathering renders. Simple scene, with a Surface Shader on a box primitive (which you can see some of) generating most of the light, and some light coming from the Environment settings in the Camera's Attribute Editor.

I noticed there still some artifacting in little areas on the brown post, and some along the top of the blue sphere. If anyone has any ideas as to what settings I should change to smooth them out. I have the Final Gather Rays set at 4000.

You might want to increase the radius of the FG rays. It does horrible things to rendertimes though!

That'll do donkey... that'll do...

Thanks, everyone. I will try those tips and see what renders.
