Bugsy - Q3A Model

Right guys. I'm gonna call this one finished (wohoo, actually my first finished project here at SM user added image). Anyway, the WIP thread for this can be found here.

Here's the working player model. Just unzip it to your Quake III Arena\baseq3 folder and you should have a new character in the game.

I am very impressed by your skill KB! Very good job!

Would love to see a tutorial on how to do a Q3 model.

PS - Testing in game link appears to be broken. Windows player launches but then just sits there connecting forever and nothing ever plays.

Thanks guys. Any of you tested this in the game? Would like to know what you think...

You can record a demo and then when you're playing it back enter the console by pressing the ~ key and type cg_thirdPerson 1 and you can see the model in action...

Hey, KB how are you exporting to .md3, is there a script or plugin or something?

I quote myself from another thread:

As you may know I am currently doing a player model for Quake 3 Arena. I'm using the .md3 exporter which I found at www.quakerally.com. It's a bit buggy and has some anomalies but it works. Just save your scene every time before you export. They have compiled the plugin only for Maya 4.5 and older but the source code is available too and you can compile it using the Maya 5 devkit (which I did).

Well, the original Q3 models are around 850 tris. Mine would be around there too if I removed the two extra "hands". I wanted it to be in the same category in polycount wise with the original ones...

Awesome work KB
Im going to do a similar project over the next few months ( I need a break before I do the uv layout on the apache)

My question is regarding the animations of the model. I understand the default animations that are needed for Q3 and how these are defined in the animation.cfg, but I havent yet attempted much animation in maya.
Did you just have one timeline and had the individual animation sequences keyframed at the frames listed in the animation.cfg or do you export each animation individualy ?

Also.. did you do all the animations.. i.e all the death, swim, idle animations etc ?

I have a fair amount of experience getting weapon models into a q3 game but have never tried a player model before.. Im looking forward to this

Also.. is there a problem with your website. I cant download the bugsy.zip or see your site ?
