This course contains a little bit of everything with modeling, UVing, texturing and dynamics in Maya, as well as compositing multilayered EXR's in Photoshop.
All i'm trying to do is to get a reference image in maya. I downloaded that dragon tutorial image planes setup and followed it to a tee. I got to the part where u middle mouse drag it over, but the image doesn't show up. The gray gets a little lighter and thats it. What's going on. Does Maya need a certain file type??
You have got to be kidding me. I feel really stupid. Thankyou so much u have no idea how much time i've spent trying to get that stupid picture to show up in the background. 6 what is that. I always hit 5. lol well thx so much.
I know you can do this easily in 3dsmax, but how do i tell maya i only want to move a structure only x wise, or only y wise, or only z wise? thx everyone.
You'll notice when you hit 'w' on your keyboard you get a tool on your object with 3 arrows. Each one corresponds to the X, Y, or Z axis. If you'd like to do it more numerically you can open up the channel box (that button on the very top right, under the close/maximise buttons) and in there is a translate box for the X Y and Z axis.
*After* you create your image plane. You will see "placement extras" open up. Toward the bottom in *Center __ __ __ * is x,y,z. Then look at the image planes in perspective. You will most likely have to size one or the other so both images match. You do this with Width or Height I forget think it's Width. When you get comfortable with it create a new set of camera views. Duplicate the image planes & you can have a set centered at 0,0 and a set split (one behind the modeling object & the other to the left). Go for It
You can also press the translate, scale, or rotate keys (w,e, or r) and left-mouse btn click and hold to bring up a marking menu which will allow you to constrain translation along a particular axis.
I was starting the tutorial and i ran into a problem. I created my image planes, and then created a cylinder. I wanted to be able to see the cylinder infront of my image plane in the front view, however, it is behind the image plane and i cannot get it in front. ANyone know how to fix this. Thx.
edit: I thought i'd add on that i just got my image plane fixed. If i don't do it the camera attribute way i can do it, but if someone can tell me how to do it that way i'd be grateful. Also, if u do it the plane way and then adding the picture, can u change the shading of one object instead of them all. For example, the plane is set to 6 and i want the object at 5 so i select the object and hit 5 but they both change. Is there a way to stop that. One last thing, what setting makes the object shaded gray, but also transparent thx so much everyone.
When you hit your number buttons you change the way everything in the scene is shaded. The only thing I know of that changes objects individually would be the X-Ray Shader. But -- if you project your image through the cameras instead of on planes then you can still have things like wireframe while seeing the picture.
