Installing Textures

Hey guys!

I'm kinda new to Maya and all I've modeled is that hammer in the hammer-tutorial.

Anyways, I'm trying to texturing the hammer, and found a nice wood-texture on the net, so now I need to install the texture into Maya. How do I do that? I've tried most of the ideas in my head now.. Please help user added image

It isn't quite as straight forward as just installing it - probably best looking at some texturing videos (there are some great ones here.

Basically what you need to do is assign a shader to the part you are texturing then assign the texture from the net to the colour slot of the shader - this is a very simplistic explanation - as I said above you need to find some tutorials - you can also read the help files inside maya

cheers
