Introduction to Maya - Modeling Fundamentals Vol 2
This course will look in the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. It's aimed at people that have some modeling experience in Maya but are having trouble with complex objects.

creating a flat shape with curves and angled edges

Hi, I'm trying to create a flat shape, I simply want to trace the outline of one i've created in illustrator (and placed on a plane in Maya to use as the template), it has angled edges aswell as curved .

Will I have to make two seperate objects, one with the curves and one with the angled edges or can can I draw/model it as one shape?

Thanks for any help people.

* in the pic the shape I want to draw is the filled box surrounding the text.

draw it all as one shape, use three or more cvs close together at the point where you want a hard edge. That should work.

Thanx for the feedback guys..

I'm using the create polygon tool I can draw all the angled/flat edges fine, it's just when I come to a section with a corner i want to curve ( i.e the top right piece ) how do I change the tool so it will draw that curve and continue on from it to finish the rest of the shape? e.g straight line > angled line > curved line - straight line... etc

by adjusting the number of points in the polygon. When you smooth a poly will try to round it's self off. If you have lots of cuts and verts then it will hold it's edge
