New Computer - Specs

I have to get a new computer (current speed is 677MHz :o) and while I have to save up (at around £50-£100 per week) I’m still looking around now. I plan to buy from MESH.

These specs look good...

Watcha think - £2099?

By the time I buy, I’ll be able to get these specs at a cheaper price, or get more with that £2k price.

Yeah, but no but yeah but no....

£2000?!??! WTF?! build it yourself it will be cheaper!! that's a heck of a lot of money for a pc. Mine cost way less than that and does pretty good on the maya front!

AMD Athlon 64 3000+ RTL includes Cooler £101.79
250Gb Maxtor Diamondmax Plus 9 - SATA (8MB Cache) £104.61 x2 = £208
Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe (DDR M/Board) DUAL LAN / 1394 / SATA £58.16

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/
GeIL 1GB (2x512MB) PC4000 Golden Dragon CAS2.5 £190.00
IIyama Vision Master Pro 513 22" CRT DiamondTron £313.30
LiteOn SOHW-1213S 12 x DVD±R/±RW Drive £43.30
AOpen GeForce 6800 GT 256MB DDR3 TV-Out/DVI (AGP) £255.00

Right with no shopping around at all and 5 mins to spare, a 22" monitor and expencive GeIL memory (very good memory) your still only looking at £1168 quid

I think that mesh system is very expencive.

David.

Like others have said before, for £2k you can build a far better system. If your prepared to splash that kind of money your looking at a nice dual processor Opteron or Xeon rig.

Also I'm not sure why Mesh are using registered memory? That's only needed with the 940 socket, unless i'm badly misinformed.

Maybe I should clarify that i would be willing to spend 2k, although I will probably remove/down-grade some components (except the TFT monitor user added image) to make it cheaper.

Secondly, builing if yourself is fine if you know what your doing - unfortunately i dont. I woudn't wanna risk buy compatible components (and getting it wrong) and attempting to build it myself. I could probably just manage, but i dont wanna risk it. Plus, I really couldn’t be asked anyway.

If anyone knows of a place where i can say what componants i want (and not from a drop-down list) to get custom built then i'll take a loot.

If i do get pre-built, i'll go to MESH, however, when i do, i wouldn't have to spend that ammount on these specs anyway.
