what's a PCI express slot? Looks good though although 256Gbs of virtual memory is probably not quite true.... although 640Mbs onboard does sound pretty sweet user added image

pci express is an upgrade to the old pci bus. The big thing about it is the amount of data it can handle at any one time going in and out. I think where these cards will benefit is when you can stack multiple cards for dual hardware rendering. This is basic but thats what got out of seeing these things working at Siggraph.

No, PCI-Express has nothing to do with PCI cards. Its the replacement of AGP.

PCI-Express is not the same thing as PCI-X. The Express thing is for video cards while the X is for peripherals.

there are few options for PCI express cards already ATI, Nvidia 3d labs all make them. price can range from 200 US all the way upto a couple of thousand dollars.

Ya, I know.

But as a mac user, I am a bit frustrated about Apple lack of interest for this technology. I expected the latest G5 revision to have it but it doesnt.

This means that the soon to be released iMac wont have it either, since they cant allow a consummer computer to be better than a pro.

Kinda sucks, but at the same time, the technology isnt mature yet, not enough cards are availlable and the PCI-X confusion isnt helping at all...

I expect these cards to be more popular by the start of next year, maybe december if we are lucky and they will allow decent Doom 3 performances...
