Complex UV Layout in Maya
Over the last couple of years UV layout in Maya has changed for the better. In this course we're going to be taking a look at some of those changes as we UV map an entire character

SOFTIMAGE|XSI v.4.0

Well, I haven't posted in quite a while so I thought I start with this one. SOFTIMAGE|XSI v.4.0 Experience has been released for $495. I know it's a cut down version but does anyone think it will cause Maya to re-think it's pricing scheme?

I am wondering how many people are tempted by it. I know Maya is the market leader, but XSI seems to be the in the No.1 spot with studios at the moment so I am wondering what effect this will have.

Answers on a postcard!

Which studios? AFAIK most still use maya. At the end of the day a cheap cut down version of XSI isnt going to convince any major studio to redevelop their 5 year old maya pipeline user added image i think it's great for home users but for studios I dont think it's that big a deal user added image

Aggh! Now that's interesting. I keep reading that Softimage is taking over in the worlds 3D studios. I believe you Alan - from the horse's mouth so to speak.

I think the idea is more people will buy it at that price to learn it and thus there will be a larger pool of people out there who have XSI experience. Then studios who do use XSI instead of Maya or are thinking of changing (you can answer that bit Alan) have a larger pool of XSI users to choose from.

But as originally asked will it cause Alias to lower its price? Probably not...

No, no, no better than that, they have taken out the button which says press this to instantly produce in 3-D on your computer what's in your head...
