tl light - how fake it

how knows how to make this light ?

I need to make a scene that is Identical to this image...
...so the scene will be just like the image....a room with a seeling like that...

any suggestions ?



(ive tried every light but I just can't seem to get the right result user added image )

fake it, use a textured plane to get you the pure white of the ceiling light and then use spots and point lights to fake all of the diffuse and bounce light. There is no light in maya that will give you that effect AFAIK. I mean an area light might do it but spots and points will be easier.

ok thanks alan...and sorry for my late reply.... I got too exIted and started right away....

I was first trying to play with some glow settings but I found out that faking it with lightlinking was a better way user added image

still Im strugling with my scene... I have allready a few lights setup but I can't seem to get my GI_Joe look kinda lighted scene...

If you guys have some tricks or comment ..please share because I want to figure out how to do it....

I played all day with the lights but it doesnt get any better...

below you see a sceneimage and a testrender at 8000 fgrays...(I don't know yet how to use the min and max so...)

some settings on arealights can kill any fg affect or subdue it to not being recignisable. You might try to put poly planes where the face of thoughs lights are. Apply a surface shader to it. Get the color picker up for the color on it.. and enter a value in the value part of like 5 - 12 something.. you will have to espirement. The poly plain will then illuminate around it and through off more rays for the fg to use more properly than the area lights.

What pure said, now add just a little glow to the material and there you go.
