When I extrude the faces, and i pull them inwards, there stays a few points normal... like on hte picture in the movie this does not happen ? Do you need a special setting or something ?
This is because the faces aren't extruding as one piece, they're extruding separately. I'm actually having exactly the same problem right now with exactly the same thing. If I figure it out I'll clue you in.
Did you try doing it again, making a new cylinder with everything reset to defaults? Maybe try chucking your Maya pref file. Looking back more closely at the screenshot, it's funky how that part is sticking out at the top. That didn't happen to me.
i havent done this tutorial, so.. i dont know What K's tellin gyou to do here..
But, it looks like you're trying to extrude in World, not Local...perhaps thats the problem?..
If your supposed to be extruding as such there, ignore this.. Like i said, never done this tut
Like KB mentioned, it's hard to see what's going on from the angle of your screenshot. Let's just go over some things:
- Did you cut and select the faces from the side view? Doublecheck in perspective that all the new faces are selected before extruding. Did you accidentally extrude twice?
- Turn on your Heads Up Display (HUD) and start selecting vertices in the extruded area to see if there are overlaps and things like that.
Make sure your tool options are all reset before going through the video. I've seen sometimes where some of the shelf buttons will retain the tool's options at the time it was made rather than any changes you make so....just something to be aware of..
If you still can't figure it out, I might be able to look at the file for you later (if you're using Maya 5, anyway).
