I don't know how the quadro performs in games....but if you like games alot and your budget supports it....get a Geforce 6 series PCI express card.....the quadro cards I think are tailored more specifically to 3D apps and CAD stuff. The quadro FX 4400 and the Geforce 6800 Ultra are close in performance according to memory bandwidth and basic specs. The quadro has slightly more memory bandwidth.

Sooo....that being said it really depends on what your going to be doing and how serious you are about Maya. If maya is a career move then a dedicated workstation for 3D would work best...with a quadro card. If gaming is on your mind alot then I would get the Geforce 6 series card.user added image

P.S. Please keep your post titles short....'Graphics card for Maya and 3dsmax' would sufficeuser added image

I have an older quadro4 980 XGL and so far it's handled every game I've thrown at it.

Hi
Thanks for replay,

It is possible that same graphic card is working very well for games like half-life 2
And Maya 6. With all futures!

I don't see why not....the quadro cards support the latest pixel shader spec and with that I would presume it supports the latest DirectX version (9.0c)

so I say yes....but again I don't own this card so I can't say for sure. The documentation seems to point in the direction that it should work just fine

got a working price range?

Also watch ebay. Workstation cards show up there from time to time.

HI,

I had a quadro fx 500 and it ran all the games that i wanted to play perfectly fine, including halflife 2. I recently upgraded to a quadro fx 1000 and that's even better, i can use 3ds max and maya with no problems and then if i want play games.

What's your buget for a graphics card? I brought my quadro Fx from a guy on ebay for £150 including shipping.

Hi Exarkun

I'm running the Quadro FX 500 and have no problems with it. Just wondered what difference(s) you have found with the FX 1000. Also, did you think it was worth ungrading - from the FX 500 ?????

best

To be honest keef i've not really noticed much difference, but at themoment i don't really have much spare time to do any max or maya.

However i did benchmark my computer when it had the fx 500 in it and got a score of 7990 tested on opengl and directx8. Compared to the fx 1000 running the same test i got a score of 10,780.

Its just a bit quicker at the mometn, but then again i'm not doing anything really intence at the moment.

++ Exarkun: Thanks for the reply (much appreciated) think I'll stay with the FX 500 - for the life of my present PC.

++ cgi_pk: Good luck with the hunt for your video card.

best

Keith
