best way to do it is to obtain a reference picture and then disect it, there are numerous ways to go about creating a house with the easilest starting from a Poly cube and working from base to top using a basic poly modeling tools such as extrude face/edge whilst moving and rotating them- split poly tool (or download FaceSplit mel - lot easier to add isopalms) to craft in the detail.
This may take longer but you create it out of Nurbs, construct the house as they do in industry- look at a reference picture and think where the construction beams and supports will be for the house, then create mutiple curves in those locations and begin to use the surfacing tools- starting with Planar for the front (easier to create windows/ door) then duplicate those curves to the back.
Isopalm loft the sides together and do the same for the roof, working from there you can use the trimedge/ispolam edge selection lofting technique to create the house. below is an attached image, very simple and basic house.
EDIT: SORRY FOR SIZE OF PICTURE!!! - had to combine two screen prints together in paint since this comp doesnt have photoshop..
