Well, Adobe´s AfterEffects© is an A/W partner, so you can expect good compatibility. Discreet´s Combustion© looks like the best choice (but it´s pricey and with a somewhat steep learning curve).

Check them out user added image

Shake and RayZ were the best choices (until apple chewed them both up). Both were very pricey, though if you work with Apple hardware then maybe still worth looking at. Digital Fusion is probably the best remaining choice, or after effects if your on a budget. Wouldnt personally touch Combustion with a mouldy stick - has great integration with max, but if your using maya then its not too great...

I didnt know anything about it, I've only used it at university and hated the interface.. found it pretty unintuitive. Also its render engine is so bloody slow!
Shake (R.I.P) on the other hand..... user added image

I use "SHAKE". I haven't played with after effects or the others mention. Shack has handled everything i've thown at it so far. Kal what where the machines you were running shake on? When I was at school shake was fast and smooth. No problems in rendering or lag.

I was saying that combustion was slow - not shake.

After Effects (latest version/production bundle) will actually import Maya camera data, allowing you to composite in 3D, adding light beams etc.

and if shake is so gr8 why not use 2.5 or whatever the last version is?

With After Effects, is the production version necessary, or will the standard version suffice for composting?

The standard version will work just fine for compositing.

I use the pro bundle for tracking, and quick 2d particle animation.

I love the Maya camera data import capability in After Effects.

In my next vip compositing tut, I cover this great feature in After Effects.
